about

Will future guitarists be hyper-specialized, or will they be freed of labels that define them?

Milan-based Francesca Naibo is a rare guitarist who moves fluently across all conjugations of the guitar, from classic to electric to fretless and pedal steel. She can’t be pigeonholed by genre either, as she explores sound in the divergent fields of free improvisation, contemporary music and classical repertoire. Her adventurous work ranges from roaring drones to microscopic vibrations to abstract soundscapes to more structured compositions. In that sense she defies our culture’s bias toward categoric labels. It’s impossible to capture all sides of Francesca Naibo in a single piece.

Francesca studied both classical guitar and free improvisation and has collaborated with many musicians in Central and Northern Europe. In 2020 her first solo album ‘Namatoulee’ was released by Aut Records. Her second solo album is an ambitious project called ‘So Much Time.’

“Where is the path” is a beatifully abstract acoustic improvisation from her album ‘Correspondence Vol. 2,’ a lockdown era dialogue of alternating tracks with Jose Dias.
